Blank Space, is a mixed media installation involving projected video of an animated particle system interacting with black flocked fabric. Viewers of the installation are immersed in a play of illusory space and light.
Originally, entitled Vacuus Particlae or "Empty Particle" it was developed to become an interactive installation attempting to illustrate an image of hope juxtaposed by fragments of darkness. I created it as a response to a rapid compounding of misfortunes during the pandemic of 2020. two years of my life suddenly went into a halt. Recalling experiences from this time appear to be blacked out, as if intentionally erased from the back of my head. We see on this installation a fragmentation of reality revolving around a beacon of light continually pulsing. Attempting to reform into a primal image I only dream to be a more optimistic future.
Blank Space was installed in the Space-in-Between gallery in Alberta University of the Arts in September 26, 2022. I would also like to thank Alberta Media Arts Alliance Society in supporting me with the Emerging Media Artist Grant, which helped fund the initial development of this project earlier in May 2022.
